Steven’s Unyielding Spirit of Hope

Steven’s early life was marked by struggles. Born out of wedlock, he has never met his father, and tragically, he lost his mother to the dual battles of breast cancer and heart failure. This loss hung heavily on his heart, yet it was the spark that ignited his resilience.

Now a grade 10 student, Steven finds himself navigating the challenges of adolescence without his mother’s comforting presence, but he is not entirely alone. He is thankful for his auntie, uncle, and cousins, who treat him like their own and who stepped up to be his guardians. He often reminisces about the countless ways they encourage him, from helping with homework to being there at every school event.

Despite the weight of his circumstances, Steven approaches life with a bright spirit. He thrives academically, pushing himself to excel in his studies. He learned to balance grief with hope, channeling his emotions into perseverance. It wasn’t always easy, but with every challenge, he discovered inner strength. It was this resilience and hope that helped him to rise above, especially when the pressures of life and school became overwhelming.

Participating in Bible Studies and Sunday Service at LCP became a turning point for Steven. LCP introduced him to a network of caring individuals who understood his struggles. Through various activities, he became closer to God. These activities offered him opportunities for his spiritual and academic journeys, such as career guidance and personal and professional development. Each session filled him with knowledge and confidence, reminding him that he was not alone in his quest for success.

Thanks to the generous support of his sponsors, Steven can buy the school supplies and materials he needs, alleviating some of his financial burdens. This support allows him to focus on his studies, dream bigger, and believe that his ambitions are attainable. With every book he opens and every lesson he learns, Steven feels gratitude for the hands that have lifted him up during the toughest times.

In one of the Career Guidance sessions, Steven shared, “With every challenge, I realize that I am more than my circumstances. I am the sum of my experiences, and I choose to rise.” Steven understands that while life dealt him challenges, it had also gifted him resilience, love, faith in God, and a community that believes in him. His journey is just beginning, and with the support of sponsorship, Steven is ready to face whatever the future holds, armed with faith and an unyielding spirit of hope.
