Graduation Triumph: From Shelter to Success Story

We are always so proud of our graduates. They have had to overcome so many obstacles to reach that day when the tassel gets moved to the other side of the cap and the next chapter in the story that God is writing for their lives begins. Here are three stories of God’s amazing Grace and the determination of these young people to endure the hardships to see their dreams come true.

Elna Mae Agusti graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology / Computer Technology. Elna came to Hope Village when she was eight years old and has lived there now for 15 years. Her mother died when she was one and after her father left, Elna was raised by her grandmother. Over the years, Elna has grown into an incredibly responsible young woman who is filled with gratitude for being able to live at the shelter and she is a good leader to the other residents. Even though she came from a troubled past, she has come through that pain with the Word of God and support from her sponsor and the staff at LCP.

Elna is a role model for the other younger residents and often leads evening devotions passing on what she has learned. She is respectful of her roommates, her house parents and the social workers at Hope Village. She is a beautiful servant by doing so many things without having to be asked. She is active in Bible study, church events and praise and worship. She is currently applying for jobs in her field of study. We could not be more proud.

At 21 years old, Kyle Elgen Acop graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He has been living at the shelter since April of 2016 because he needed a home after the death of his father. It was too much of a financial burden for his mother to provide for his needs or education. Kyle’s mother later remarried but they lived in a very small house which had no electricity, running water, bathroom, or even a room for Kyle. They had to use firewood for cooking and candles at night to see. The school was too far for Kyle to get there. Kyle’s mother worked as housekeeper, but their income was only enough for their daily food. They had no other source of income. So, Kyle came to the shelter. Despite his poor upbringing, he held to the courage and determination to finish his education and the hope that someday he could help his family. Kyle is a wonderful example to the other residents and often is awarded for his cooperation. Currently, he is part of the LCP Staff as an Assistant to the Property Custodian.

At 22 years old, Noeme Tuco graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology. Noeme has lived at Hope Village for 10 years. The shelter offered her safety and protection from the abuse of a close family member and gave her the opportunity through Christian community, therapy and education to change her life and become the person she is today. Noeme is a responsible, caring person with wonderful leadership skills. She works well with other residents and is very respectful of her house parents. She has flourished in her studies and at church, participating in Bible studies and singing on the worship team. Noeme is focusing her attention on her upcoming review for Board Examination in Criminology. Please pray for all our graduates as they embark upon the next stage of life.
